KOHLER Tailor™ Farmhouse Sink: 2019
KOHLER’s apron-front or "farmhouse" sinks had long been defined by strong brand equity and a patented self-trimming feature that made installation simple and accessible. While this positioned KOHLER as a category leader, the broader market became saturated with look-alike products offering only incremental changes in style, material, and bowl configuration.
Recognizing an opportunity, I reframed the design challenge: what if the sink could be elevated beyond utility to become the true centerpiece of the kitchen — challenging the faucet’s reputation as the “jewel of the kitchen”?
My contribution focused on rethinking the apron-front sink to introduce new avenues for personalization and consumer self-expression. By moving past subtle form updates, I developed concepts that positioned the sink not just as a functional necessity, but as a statement piece within the home.

The apron was designed in coordination with countertop fabricators to allow for customers to insert excess countertop material (up to 3cm) safely and securely into the apron or insert a tile tray that matches their backsplash. Or the consumer can choose from a range of KOHLER curated designs including Etched Stone, Carved Stone and Flora inserts.
With the patented Tailor™ carrier bracket system, the apron inserts can easily be changed out to match a kitchen refresh or updated design. Tailor’s 4-gauge steel apron has KOHLER’s proprietary Self-Trimming design for improved installation and is offered in three size configurations.

KBIS 2019: Las Vegas, NV Debut

LAUNCHED AT KBIS 2019
I executed with excellence by designing a product that allowed us to innovate in the area of customizable aprons; long before any competitors allowed for full-on stone inserts, and customer’s own material. It was well received by Kohler execs, CEO + industry media.
Credit to Dana Morales + Carrie Hack of our CMF team for their contributions to the floral patterns and etched surface treatments.
